Movement building

Together.

We acknowledge the formidable challenges faced by Black single mothers because we live it every day. At The Current Project, we trust and center the experiences and voices of Black single mothers and are committed to supporting their social, economic, and emotional wellbeing through programming, advocacy, and most importantly, intentional community.

We have the audacious goal to reach 10% of Black single mothers in this country by 2028 through our programming, experiences, and policy advocacy. And we will reach it through a commitment to ourselves first.

Whether it's through CurrentEconomics, our digital community exclusively for Black single mothers (coming soon!), or at one of our virtual or in-person events, your commitment to the movement is the power we need.

I want to join the movement.

We're doing this together. Here's the commitment:

  • Shift the narrative of Black Single Motherhood.

I refuse to be defined solely by my challenges. We pledge to rewrite the story of Black single motherhood—one of resilience, strength, and triumph.

  • Prioritize emotional wellness.

Every day, I will prioritize my emotional well-being. Through deep care, mindfulness, and engaging community support, we’ll nurture our spirits and find joy even in the toughest moments.

  • Pursue economic wellness and legacy building.

I commit to financial empowerment and knowledge sharing. Whether it’s budgeting, investing, or creating generational wealth, we’ll build a legacy that uplifts our children and their children.

  • Build a community of reliable support and care.

I’ll give and accept care in a network of people I trust. We’ll be there for each other—sharing resources, advice, and encouragement. No one walks this path alone.

  • Engage in civic action and education.

Knowledge +  Action = power. I will educate myself on policies, advocate for our children’s needs, and actively participate in shaping a better future for our families.
